Preventative Troubleshooting Checklist - STAR Printers

Below is a general guide outlining some preventative troubleshooting measures that can be taken with your Kiosk if it uses a STAR Printer model; these suggestions may help you better diagnose or even resolve your Kiosk issue before contacting TouchMate Support.

Preventative Trouble Shooting Checklist: Star Printers

1. Clean these areas with compressed air.

2. Check the little plastic part indicated to ensure the paper guide is not loose. Pinch inward.
   • 
3. Clean these areas with alcohol-based solvents (such as ethanol or methanol):
   • PF Roller Cleaning Method (only applicable to TUP592 Printer):
     • To clean the PF roller, dampen a soft cloth with an alcohol-based solvent (such as

       ethanol or methanol) and clean the PF roller while slowly turning it using the

       knob. Also, do not apply excessive force when doing so. Wipe the heating

       elements gently.

   • Thermal Head Cleaning Method:
     • To clean the thermal head heating elements, wipe with a cotton swab dampened

       with an alcohol based cleaner (such as ethanol or methanol). Also, do not apply

       excessive force when doing so. Wipe the heating elements gently. After cleaning,

       check that the alcohol has completely evaporated before closing the platen unit.

   • Platen Cleaning Method:
     • Dampen a soft cloth with an alcohol-based solvent (such as ethanol or methanol)

       and wipe the platen while slowly turning it. Also, completely wipe away all the

       paper dust on the rubber platen. If the cleaning is incomplete, there may be

       problems with paper feeds.

   • Presenter Sensor and Peripheral Maintenance Method (only applicable to TUP592 Printer):
     • Remove any dirt, dust, or paper cuttings that may be adhering to the presenter

       sensor or the vicinity. Use a soft, dry cotton cloth, swab, or brush to clean. Also,

       do not apply excessive force when doing so.
